Teaching Skills: A Martial Arts instructor must be able
to break down every single technique into its most basic components and
then instruct each and every student to achieve good technique no matter
what their God given abilities. At the CKA we have 4 Certified
Instructors and other Black Belts to help each student achieve their goals.
Mr. David Doty, is the Chief Instructor and President of the School. Mr. Doty spent 4 years in the U.S.Navy as an Air Traffic Controller and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from American University (Washington, DC). Mr. Doty is also well-known Bible and Sunday School teacher in the Sewickley area and is a member of the Parish Council of Christ Church at Grove Farm. Facilities: Does the school have adequate facilities? At the CKA, our facility is:
History: How long has the school been opened? Ninety-four percent of Karate schools will fail in their first 3 years of operation. The CKA has been in business since 1997 and we see a very long future. Costs & Price: Every school should publish a written Class Schedule and written Price List of every potential charge to the student. Most schools have additional or hidden fees that can include quarterly testing fees, mandatory tournament fees, seminar fees, and internal fund raisers. At the CKA, we publish our prices on the WEB and other than the monthly training fee of $40, there are no other costs up to Black Belt. Binding Contracts: Most schools require the student to sign a long-term contract that requires payment even if the student discontinues training - no matter what the reason. A collection company usually administers the contracts for the school and missing even 1 payment will result in an immediate change in your credit standing. Be very careful about signing a contract and be sure to double check and fully understand what happens if you need to discontinue your training throughout the contract period. At the CKA,we do not require any type of contract or agreement whatsoever. Training Materials: Every school should provide detailed
written and/or video requirements for each promotion and provide adequate
training materials for home study. At the CKA, we publish a complete Black Belt curriculum including:
Worldview: Every school teaches a worldview, whether it secular humanism or eastern mysticism, or traditional Judeo-Christian principles and values. Investigate what the school and its leadership believe and teach. Be especially cautious of a school that says they don't promote any worldview or philosophy. At the CKA, we are biblically based program adhering to tenets of Christian faith as revealed in God's written Word.
